HistoryIn 1971, Earl and Margaret Beck began Parkland Nurseries expanding into a garden centre in 1982, becoming Red Deer’s first garden centre. Earl retired in 1982, and Gloria Beck now owns Parkland Nurseries and Garden Centre which is one of the largest retail garden centres in Central Alberta.Open year round, Parkland Nurseries & Garden Centre has greenhouse production, a retail tree lot, perennial production, landscape design services as well as a garden centre shop filled with a vast array of garden supplies and giftware for all ages, including an extensive Christmas shop. Throughout the year, Parkland offers gardening and design courses, hosts bus tours, group tours, weddings, and distributes a gardening newsletter.Parkland participates as a member of Landscape Alberta Nursery Trades Association, the Canadian Nursery Trades Association, the International Garden Centre Association and the American Nursery Trades Association. Our fantastic Ice Sculptures, which are displayed every year about mid-December, weather permitting, are one of the very special ways that Parkland gives back to the community with donations to the Food Bank. We also contribute annually through donations to many community events and charities such as Habitat for Humanity, the Women’s Shelter, Red Deer Hospital, Food Bank, Cancer Society, Red Deer College, Olds College and numerous others, as well as partnering with Aspen Heights School as “Partners in Progress”. Parkland Garden Centre is also involved with the Rotary Club and past Chamber of Commerce.Parkland Garden Centre staff varies from 10 to 80 employees depending on the season, and management takes pride in hiring friendly, knowledgeable staff who offer exceptional customer service.Parkland Nurseries & Garden Centre is more than just a garden centre, it’s a destination.
